"A little group of willful men reflecting no opinion but their own have rendered the great Government of the United States helpless and contemptible."
President Woodrow Wilson

Woodrow made that statement way back in 1917, but I wanted to use it to illustrate a point. The Government in this country never has worked efficiently or effectively. In fact, it appears to have been designed to be painfully slow, inefficient and ineffective. This in itself bothers me, as I'm impatient and want things MY way TODAY, like most children of the television culture, however, this is only a minor annoyance when compared to the idea that those who run the Government don't seem to run it for the good of the country, or even the good of the majority of their voting constituents, but for the good of their own bank balances. I can't believe that any but the incredible minority of those in politics today are in it for anything but their own greed and desire for power. In fact, after listening to Newt the other night, I got so angry I wondered what it would take to get myself into office just so I could tell him to go stuff himself when he came around to me to ask for a vote his way on something! Then I thought about what it WOULD take, the compromises one must make, the deals, the sheer politics of the whole political system, and I decided that no good person would ever get themself involved. Lovely, eh?
